Subprojects
Regensburg
The second DMB subproject of MI FRIENDS started in Regensburg in September 2006. It has been initiated, like the over-all European Mobile Media Project "MI FRIENDS", by ‘Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien (BLM)’ and will cover a term of two years. During this period, additional services will be generated as a surplus value for media users, and interactivity will be developed and technically integrated into the range of programs offered. Moreover, a personalized, time-independent content portal will be developed. Furthermore, tests have been planned regarding the interoperability of different transmission systems (T-DMB and DVB-H).
Further on, the development of linear and interactive programs will be pushed, which take the requirements and wishes of mobile broadcast users into account. At the same time existing content shall be examined for its suitability in a mobile environment, adapted if necessary, and new formats and content will be developed and tested.
Regensburg’s medium size of 130.000 citizens in the city itself plus 170.000 on the outskirts, as well as its demographic and socio-economic constitution correspond with a typical European regional city. Therefore the results of the accompanying research since June 2007 can statistically be equally applied to other European cities and regions as well.
In Regensburg mainly innovative small and medium-sized companies are integrated in the project. Integration in the future mobile media market is extremely important especially for those companies. Last but not least, by involving and supporting local and regional mobile media, BLM wants to contribute to the diversity in this uprising market.
